“Your zip code is more important than your genetic code.”

That’s what Dr. Erin Athey emphasized at the 113th National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) meeting. After nearly 20 years serving communities across Washington, DC, she’s seen it firsthand: just a few miles can mean a 20-year difference in life expectancy.

In neighborhoods like Ward 8, access to care looks very different than it does just across the city. Outdated systems, limited clinic hours, and fragmented care are failing the people who need it most.

That’s where C3 Cares steps in.

At C3, we believe care should meet people where they are—literally. Through place-based, mobile, and community-rooted care, we’re working to shift the standard and close the gap in health outcomes.

Thank you to NINR for the opportunity to share our mission and highlight what true, community-driven healthcare can look like.
