That’s what Dr. Erin Athey emphasized at the 113th National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) meeting.

​

After nearly 20 years serving communities across Washington, DC, she has seen the reality firsthand: just a few miles can represent a 20-year difference in life expectancy.

​

For communities like Ward 8, the barriers are not simply about whether healthcare exists. It’s about whether care is accessible, consistent, trusted, and connected to the realities of everyday life.

​

At C3 Cares, we believe healthcare should not ask people to navigate a system that was never designed around them. Care should meet people where they are. Through place-based, mobile, and community-rooted care, C3 Cares is working to bring healthcare closer to where people live, work, and build their lives, while helping close persistent gaps in health outcomes.
